Ludo is born
OK before I begin…I know the comments don’t work…this is getting fixed most probably tonight.
Well, my new AIBO arrived today. What a great little guy he is as well. 😀 I have spent a little time playing with him before I headed out to Uni, and I am going home soon to go and check him out some more. I have been using the AIBO Explorer this morning, but tonight Ludo will be born as a child AIBO with AIBO Life 2.
I will keep you posted on how I get on with him and I hope to get some pics online soon too. 😀

AIBO Again
Well…I have finally done it. I have bought an AIBO. It is the ERS-211A model and it was off Ebay in mint condition. I have just payed for it with PayPal and I cannot wait for it to arrive. 😀
Today is going to be a busy day with lots of work to do to meet these deadlines for Uni. Fun fun fun.

Work Work Work
Jees the work is continuing. I realised today in my infinite wisdom that my project is in earlier than expected – a full day of it is going to be happening tomorrow. Lucky me.
The hunt for the AIBO continues…and I just rambled about it over in the Rambles section. I have a few options available for getting one and I am just investigating various choices…I don’t want to pay through the nose…but I do want one ASAP.
It seems that my hosting is pretty much sorted now and archivedblog.jonobacon.com will be online soon (I am transferring this site there). When the new domain is ready I will finish the music section so I can stick some songs online and also finish off the current featureset of Tobe. Tobe is looking nice and I want to get it out soon.
On a final note…my brother and his family are moving back over to Engalnd from Ireland. This has really made my week…fantastic news. I am gonna get to see them all a lot more often now.

Fun Stuff
You know…I think I spend a lot of my time looking for the next interesting thing to learn about…I wonder if there is a term for this…I suspect timewaster may be one. 🙂
I am currently looking at a couple of interesting things. First is the Sony AIBO robot; I have wanted one of these for years – mail me if you know where to get them cheap or you are selling one. The next thing is Warchalking.
Last night I went out with Craig who was staying over at our house to see how far my wireless LAN stretches. Not too far it seems…and we then decided to head of looking for Wireless LANs. It was not proper Warchalking as we were just scanning for IP addresses instead of scanning for frequencies and subsequently picked nothing up. I was taking a look at Kismet for scanning wireless frequencies and I will be playing with this when my wireless LAN card supports RF Monitoring (which it does’nt…d’oh!). What is also cool is that you can hook up a GPS reciever to Kismet to automatically plot wireless LANs on a map off the Internet. Mmmm…facinating yet entirely useless stuff. 🙂

SCO / Music
Well…it seems that SCO have had a DoS attack against their server. It seems that the l33t members of the Linux world have taken the fury out on SCO in the only way they know how. Well, I know it is illigal and I know it is immoral…but let’s face it…it’s pretty damn funny.
Last night went out to Steve’s birthday bash and got back in at about 2am. I then started doing some drum programming for a new song Free The Free in my studio. I finally got to sleep at about 5am. Free The Free is sounding cool – very different to Seraphidian, and the first song of my ‘solo’ stuff. Seraphidian will always be number 1, but this shows another side to me. 🙂 It will be online soon.

Work-a-roo
Jees it has been busy recently. Not only has the band been gigging lots, but there has been approx 100 metric tonnes of Uni work to get through. Everything from training to XML to PHP. Don’t get me wrong folks…some of it is pretty cool to be doing…but there is just so much of it.
One thing that is quite cool however is that I have got back some Uni work that I can stick online. Some of it may interest some of you and some of it could quite possibly bore the socks of you.
In the next few weeks I will also be adding my final semester Negotiated Study essay; The Impact Of Open Source on Software Usage and Culture. It is shaping up to be another treatise of Open Source and the issues involved…similer in vein to the legendry Cathederal and the Bazaar by Eric Raymond. When it is finished I would love to hear some feedback on it.
Fisted
I tell you what…I am impressed. A while back…my mate Craig and I recorded a song about a guy on our course called Ziggy (Zahir Rafiq). We met for a couple of hours, I wrote the music and lyrics and craig added some humorous comments on the song. We recorded it in my studio and then played it to our coursemates. Anyway, Craig has gone one step further and created a website for the song. We decided that we were going to be a Busted type band called Fisted.
Go and behold the joy and listen to the tune at https://student-bdc.wlv.ac.uk/imc/user55/song/home.htm.
The iLoo
I am sure some of you may have seen the Microsoft iLoo concept that might be getting developed. The idea is that you can have access to the net and various Microsoft service while building a log cabin. I hope that it is wireless because the last thing you need is to be laying a cable. 😉

SCO vs IBM
I have just reading about the SCO vs IBM case. I find this completely unbelievable. It is shocking that a company that used to be so connected to the Linux community has completely turned on them and is making these accusations. Don’t get me wrong…I am not saying IBM is angelic, and it would not surprise me if some wrongdoing had happened, but I would be surprised if SCO’s cited allegations are true. Fingers crossed this case will be over quickly and Linux will be back on a solid footing in terms of IBM’s contributions. I am certainly staying tuned to this one…

Open Source report
I am just working away on some work for my Negotiated Study module at Uni. The module is all about writing a document about the social issues for a technology…so I have chosen Open Source. The report will look at the issues surrounding Open Source that are social and cultural…I won’t just rant about the technology.
fingers crossed I will be able to stick this document on here for others to use. I would really like to publish this when it is done. 😀
