Freelancing away

Freelancing away

Although I promised myself a few weeks off I have been getting the itch to get some freelance work. The writing is showing up interesting and I am also persuing more web programming work. Fingers crossed I will be a millionnaire this time next year Rodney.

Good day yesterday working on some new material with my Cello playing fiend of a friend Emelye. The Dead Of Night will be on here soon. It is taking a bit longer for songs to get on here as I have no network access on the studio computer; in fact, I have to move the zip drive upstairs and copy it then move it downstairs which as you can imagine, is a real pain in the nethers. This will be resolved tomorrow though when I go and get a wireless LAN card for the machine. There will then be a shorter gap between getting my tunes online.

Hack the site

Jees…tonight has been interesting. After getting in and doing some recording and mixing, I settled down while Sooz was at work to hack my website and implement some fixes. This went well until I was ambushed by ants trying to come in and eat our food. We duley went out and bought some stuff that is most definitly not good for ants and spread it all over the place. Fingers crossed the little buggers have gone.

Anyway, I have rewritten the writing section and added a PDF of one of my essays before I broke OpenOffice.org. I am now trying to fix it to export the other file’s to PDF and put them online. Fungus crossed. 🙂

Work

Work

Just popped into the Science Park with Craig today to pick up some work. While here waiting for Vince I have been looking for some more freelance work to persue the career as a freelance writer and developer.

I was also just reading about the IBM Linux Desktop PC thats is going on sale in India. This is a good thing in my view in the sense that it is really pushing the commercial side of Linux in India; an area that is already quite dense with computing activity. I think places such as India, South America and Asia are places where L inux has a great deal of potential.

In other news, I have some more music coming this way. Last night I remixed one of newest tracks; Free The Free. It sounds much better than my initial mix. I have also got a song called David’s Song which is coming online soon which is quite different – it has a guest singer and cello parts in it and sounds really cool. I just need to re-record a few bits and mix and then it will be ready.

Free music is a good thing

Free music is a good thing

Well, I have finally got my music section online. The problem is the age old web development problem – to add a section does not just involve knocking a page up, but adding the database inserts/selects, admin pages and other stuff. Finally it is up and you folks can get some free music. 😀

Today I was working on a tune I recorded with some friends. I spent some time mixing and should have it online pretty soon.

Right, it is late and I need sleep. Seeya soon folks.

SCO

SCO

I read yesterday on Slashdot about the Novell press release regarding SCO not owning UNIX. Did I laugh? Yes, so much so that I nearly hurt something internal. SCO are pathetic in my view and I look forward to barrage of counter-sue cases from Linux vendors who have had their business hurt for them. Nice one Novell!

Well, I just got in from a gig and felt the need to share that rant. Now I must stop avoiding lugging in the gear from my car. OK here goes…

Music / LUG

Music / LUG

Yesterday was fun. I spent the day jamming with some friends and pretty much completed a recording that I have been working on for a while. After this was done I headed over to the LUG.

Last night’s LUG was pretty cool. It was a lot more political than normal and some interested debate was had. There was also some fervent discussion between myself and Aq about tables vs divs. If I get slashdotted there may be some changes. 😉

As well as all this I have been playing with Blender a lot recently. This has been partially due to 2my work in Linux Format about Blender, and partially because I find it facinating. I saw some shorts that have been produced with it and it is inspiring stuff. I need to produce a creature to show Jon in a week. I am getting there, but my creature is looking a bit freaky at the moment!!

Today I am going to be mowing the lawn and then playing a gig in Walsall. Seeya soon and keep your eye open for some PDFs of my research work over the next few days.

Back home

Well tonight we returned home after some time in Bedford with family. Good fun was had, much food eaten and many bad jokes told.

Plans for the next few days are making the most of time with mates before they all go rushing off and messing about with Blender and PHP. Also, lot’s of music and band stuff. 🙂

Off on my travels

Well, the Craig monster stayed over last night and we chilled out and even watched a bit of American Ninja 2; classic film if there ever was one.

Today we went for Chines for Laura’s (Craigs housemate) leaving do, and now I am back here with sooz tidying up before we head off to Bedford to visit family.

Just heard back from my mate Vicky who is back in greece and she is enjoying the sun. Lucky bar steward.

Free as a bird

Well, I popped into Uni yesterday to say bye to a few mates and got some email addresses to set up a mailing list.

Last night I decided to try and set up a mailing list on pepper (my server). This was gonna be a struggle as I had never configured (a) an email server (b) a mailing list server. I sat down with a huge mug of tea and got to it.

After some time on #debian asking some questions I finally got everything working. The email server (exim) was easier than expected and mailman was fairly straightforward. If I have time I might write a technical document on how I got it working.

Anyway, I am laid in bed and have just written a review for Linux Format. I am now off to Craigs house to hang out.

Finished

Well, it has finally happened. I have finished Uni. I did my presentation, and it went pretty well and then we went to the pub last night and had a skinfull getting extremely drunk witht he rest of my year. Fun was had by all, and it is sad to see everyone leaving.

I am now officially free as a bird and plan on staying free for the next month or so, and then I will start looking for a job in earnest. I am gonna pop down to the careers place and see what my options are though in the meantime.
