Time to rest

Time to rest

Well, after all the hubbub of the expo, I am finally back home resting. I got in last night after the gig (yep, I had a gig after the expo had finished!) and collapsed on the couch knackered like never before. I then fell asleep and Sooz woke me up at 2am saying it may be an idea to go to bed.

Got up today at 2pm and sent some emails. I am just cooking some pasta now for lunch and then I am gonna start hacking some PHP code for a new project.

Its been a fun few days. It was cool to meet up again with Justin, Phil Hands, Alaisdair Kergon, Brian Teeman, Alan Cox and others. It was also cool to meet new people such as the mighty Trigger (ITS Linux), Richard Smedley and Lorraine from Linux User. I am gonna sort out a booth for the new expo coming up also, so expect to see KDE there.

Fun at the expo

Fun at the expo

Bejees has it been a busy few days. I have been at the Linux User and Developer expo in Birmingham running the KDE booth. It has been a busy time, and I have met a lot of people that I havent seen for ages and lots of new people in general.

Generally the expo has been successfull so far. There has been lots of positive interest in KDE, and it has been cool catching up with things in other projects. LUGites sparkes and Peter Oliver have been over, and Adam and Ron come over tomorrow. Lee has been helping me with the booth so thanks certainly go to him for his sterling work.

In other news, Paul and Alan visited and a metal time was had by all. Paul and I have decided to record an album of our old Neuraxon stuff, so it is gonna be cool doing that. We are doing it a few weeks after our jaunt to Wacken.

Right, I need to do some writing before I get some kip and get up for the last day of the expo tomorrow. I also have a gig tomorrow night. 🙂

KDE Expo crisis

KDE Expo crisis

Well, it has certainly been an interesting day. I found out that the KDE booth at the expo has been booked but no one organised it. The guy who booked it forgot to tell me that he could not run it.

I have stepped in to sort everything out and will be running the booth at the expo with. A true nightmare but fingers crossed it should all work out.

Just need to sort out some printing and stuff to get it all arranged.

Speeding and stuff

Speeding and stuff

I just wrote a new ramble all about the issues with speed camera’s in the UK. This whole issue pretty much peeves me off, and I would like to hear your thoughts.

Had a good jam tonight with Steve. Worked on some tunes; one was his which is fecking heavy and the other is going to be a Seraphidian version of the Dead Of Night. The new material is getting really, really cool. 😀

I have to do some writing tonight, add some updates to the site and hack some stuff in Tobe. I want to get some of this stuff sorted before my metal brothers \m/ \m/ Paul and Alan come over to stay this weekend. Paul arrives tomorrow as we are off to a gig in Manchester tomorrow night.

Tobe

Tobe

Well, I have released Tobe 0.5. As clearly mentioned in the package itself and on this site, there is still much work to be done with it. I am hoping to get some of this completed over the next few weeks so I can get a new release out. Some issues are more important than others and they are the priority.

Went over to Telford today to see my buddy Dom. Had a drink and reminiced over old times when we worked together. I also bought an Optical mouse as I broke the one in the studio when I got annoyed and smashed it on the table. I will install it later.

Tonight I have a jam with Steve (bass) from the band and possibly Steve (guitar) if he can make it.

Writing coke and IE

Writing coke and IE

Well, it seems that my site updates seem to be fairly solid. I still have to add some ALT tags to images to make them valid, but I will do this tonight. The only bug I have seen is with IE5 and IE6 with the Ramble section. I will fix that up as IE seems to have to be explicitly told when to change the font size.

I am now watching the news and doing some more writing while consuming many cans of coke. Sooz is working on her Director work.

I have also hacked part of my Project page and Tobe 0.5 will be released soon. This will be a pre-release and still has many fixes and features to be added. I should have the project page up later.

Finally…I hope it works…

Finally…I hope it works…

Finally the changes I have been making have been added to the live site. I spent some fun time with IE5 fixing it’s obscurities, but I think I got it sorted. There are bound to be little problems here and there, so please let me know if you spot one.

Oh, and go and buy Linux Format – I have three articles in there this month. 😀

Lawn jam

Lawn jam

Today Emelye popped round for some more music making and we worked on some part of a new a tune. I went to town to fax a document and them came back.

This afternoon I also had the pleasure of mowing the lawn. You know, I quite like mowing the lawn…being out in the garden, at one with nature…that is until every creature known to man (and women) decided to fly in your face. Not peturbed, I cracked on and it looks fighty mine out there. 🙂

Now I have some writing to do and hopefully upload the changes to the site after some IE checks. Fingers crossed when you read this it will be the second entry and I will have uploaded the site.

Self keyhole surgery = pain

Self keyhole surgery = pain

Once upon a time I was walking into our kitchen and there were tiny bits on the kitchen floor where we had not hoovered for a few days. As I proceeded to do the honurable thing of making a cup of tea…I was viciously attacked by one of these bits and it stuck right into my foot.

Well, this pesky bugger has been hanging on for dear life and after initially trying to get it out I just bit the bucket and decided to wait for it to urk it’s own way out.

After a few weeks of having this sod in my foot I decided tonight that armed with a pair of tweezers it was time to hunting and perform a bit of surgery on my foot. I stuck this set of tweezers in as hard as I could and much pain was felt. Although I was getting nowhere quickly other than hurting my foot, I hung in there and now the aforementioned splinter infidel is out.

Mmmmmetal…or lack of it

Went out tonight to a place called the City Bar with the promise of three rooms of pumping metal. Instead we were presented with one room of pathetic dance music – it seems there were some problems with the metal night tonight.

Nevermind, we got in and went to bed and I have fixed up most of the site now. I will spent a few hours tomorrow getting the IE CSS quirks out and then update to the new code. When this is done I plan on adding some more comment bits and bobs.

Well, the whole SCO thing rumbles on. Although the poll on Linux.com thinks that this is doing good things for making people hear about Linux, I suspect this will be doing the reputation of Linux a bit of a downer. I find it sad, pethetic and basically pretty unbelievable that SCO are *still* taking this position. A grand squashing is in order courtesy of IBM.

I suppose the issue at hand is that they are accusing others of a crime *they* commited. They distributed Linux with the ‘misappropriated code’ as well as everyone else. Although the NDA laden 80 lines of code was released, they still have not actually been clear with what is the score. It is a clear case of FUD, and people such as Red Hat, IBM, SuSE and others should be as vocal in their objection as possible. This whole case has angered me because UNIX has been studied by many an MIT beard wearer and as such many have been contaminated with the code as it was used to educate.

If SCO are indeed wrong (and I am pretty certain they will be), I hope the courts not only squash them for their lies, but also for their poor handling od their case, claims and queries on them.
