Oh sweet jesus

Oh sweet jesus

Well, today I finally recieved my PS2 network adapter and SOCOM, and it is one of the most incredible, immersive games I have ever played. Get up now off your backside and go and buy it – it is incredible.

There I was, sat there with the headset on, and you are chatting to strangers coming up with tactics and attack plans. It is awesome. I had a little bother getting Smoothwall to work unfortuantly, but I will write about that and stick it in the writing section. 🙂

Karate in an hour and then back for more SOCOM and a few games of chess with Sooz. 🙂

More charities

More charities

Well, I have just released the Linux For Charities document – it is in the Writing section. I want to get this document out to as many people as possible to esnure that charities can make use of it and the register.

Went to see The Exploited tonight. Good gig, nice venue although fecking hot. Lots of spitting going out in punk gratitude to the band, and it was awesome to see Beat The Bastards live. 🙂

Well, I am again hoping my PS2 stuff and grades arrive tomorrow. I am sure you will find out soon.

Oh yeah…and leave a comment…then I can say hi to you. 🙂

Charities

Charities

Well folks, after plenty of work, my new charities register is online. I am hoping that this will be a valuble resource to charities across the world. Fingers crossed we should see some case studies rolling in. We currently have a big fat 0 of studies!!

No network adapter and SOCOM today. 🙁 They should arrive tomorrow I expect. Also, no grades. I hope they arrive tomorrow also. 🙂

My goodness is it hot. Just when you suspected that British Summertime lasted 3 days, we have a complete heatwave. Consequently I have been drinking lots of coke, trying to keep cool, and virtually everything on my body has sweated off. I am not designed for heat, I come from Yorkshire for goodness sake.

We are just playing chess in the garden. We bought a chess set ages ago and never used it, and we decided to have a go now. It is too hot to be stuck inside on a computer or guitar.

Well, fingers crossed the PS2 network stuff should arrive tomorrow, and also my final grade for my degree. Should be fun. 🙂 We are also off to Birmingham Academy tomorrow night to see The Exploited. I can’t wait. 🙂

Ticking along

Well, things have been running smoothly over the past few days. I have been quite busy, hence the lack of an update.

We went over to Doncaster on Saturday to see my brother and his family. They are moving over from Ireland, so it was cool to catch up. I am looking forward to when they move over in a month or so.

I just the Official PS2 Network Adapter and SOCOM: Navy Seals with the USB headset. I have been looking forward to network gaming on the PS2 for a while and I am eager for these to arrive. 🙂

Unfortunatly the project I was working on for my site has been delayed a little bit until I get a backlog of things out of the way. I also have a few projects planned with some other things. More will be revealed soon. 🙂

More work

More work

Spent some time last night working on some code for a new feature on the site. I am hoping it should be ready tonight or tomorrow – it has taken longer than expected due to some technical hiccups that have now been resolved.

I need to pop down to the Science Park to get some module grades today – fingers crossed they will have gone as expected, and soon I should hear from the Uni as to what my final degree is. I am expecting a 2:1 if my calculations were correct.

Lazy steward

Well, I sometimes amaze myself at how lazy I can be. I got up at the stonking time of 4.30pm today. Admittidly I went to bed at 7am workin on various bits and bobs.

I am now making a concerted effort to get up at 1pm given that I normally go to bed at 6am. I tend to work most of the day and all night, so I think this will enable to get to do other important things like seeing Sooz and playing with Ludo.

LUG meet tonight. The usual tomfoolery is no doubt going to be present. It seems like an eternity since the last LUG meet, so I am quite looking forward to this. 🙂

I am also currently investigating upgrading my studio PC. I am looking to upgrade the machine and the sound card. Should make for better sounding, more precise songs. I have a noticable latency in my current setup which can be heard on some of the songs. My recent material has been much more technical and precise and as such needs some better gear with low latency.

Beware of work – its not pretty

Well today I woke up at 12pm and spent some time on IRC with my brother discussing some software we are writing. I then starting doing some work on a new feature for this site – I am not saying anything at the moment, but it should be ready over the next few days.

I went out, mowed the lawn, did some Karate practice (don’t laugh), played some guitar and watched some Big Brother. Lisa needs to go…thats my view. 🙂

tonight ate some curry with Sooz, carried on working on an article and watched yet more Big Brother. Lisa still needs to go.

Well, it seems the Slashdot effect is winding down on the server. It really is incredible how much a story on Slashdot can knacker your server. Apparently there were 10,000 requests. I did put a link to the song on my Uni space – I wonder what the sysadmin there thinks of it. 😉

Slashdotting!!

Slashdotting!!

Well folks, it seems that my song did get Slashdotted, and as such destroyed the bandwidth of the network that machine is on. Apologies to Savvy and Aq for this, and I am now looking at alternatives to hosting songs so this does’nt appen again; maybe BitTorrent.

You can get the song from https://pers-www.wlv.ac.uk/~f9808590/jonobacon-freesoftwaresong.ogg by the way, untilI sort something out.

Stuff to do

Well, I have sent out some requests for comments on my charities document. I have put it up at https://jono.dyndns.org/temp/linuxforcharities-pre.pdf and I welcome any feedback/corrections or suggestions. Mail me at [email protected] if you have any.

I have also been thinking a lot about recording recently, and I think it is time to upgrade my setup. I have been meaning to upgrade for a while, but I think I am going to persue it for a new project I should able to reveal soon.

Today was a nice lazy day. We watched Karate Kid, ate some damn fine food and lazed about in dressing gowns all day (nice image for you folk eh?!). I have been trying to fix some PHP problems, but I had to put that on hold to some work tonight. I am gonna spend some more time on this PHP problem tomorrow.

Oh, and as for the Free Software Song, RMS has mailed me back saying he will instruct the GNU webmaster to put it on their site. 🙂 Good news tarnished with bad in the sense that the infidels at Slashdot didnt post my story about the song even though it was pending for two days, getting my hopes up. Bar stewards they are.
